Why this happens
On a multi trade job the cost overruns almost never come from the trades themselves. They come from sequencing, when tile arrives before the substrate is ready or electrical is roughed after drywall closed the walls. Every one of those is a redo billed to somebody. The general contractor exists to own that sequence, and it is the part of the job that is invisible when it is done properly.
