Why this happens
Brick walls in New York fail from the top down. Water gets in at the parapet or the coping, travels through the wall and freezes, and each freeze pushes the masonry apart a fraction more. By the time a wall looks bad from the street it has usually been taking water for several winters. That is why we start at the roofline rather than at the damage you can see.

Spot repairs on a small area of a wall commonly run from around 1,500 dollars. Rebuilding a section of wall, including scaffolding and matched material, more often falls between 6,000 and 25,000 depending on height, access and how much has to come down. Full elevation work on a multi family building runs higher. Access is usually the biggest single cost driver, not the brickwork itself.

How do I know if my brick wall needs repair or a full rebuild?
If mortar joints are crumbling but the brick is sound, repointing usually solves it. If bricks are cracked through, bulging away from the wall, or the wall has moved out of plumb, a rebuild of that section is the honest answer. We show you what we are seeing before we quote.
Do you handle landmark and prewar buildings?
Yes. Much of our work is on prewar buildings in the Bronx and Manhattan where brick size, color and mortar mix all have to match the original. We source matching material rather than patching with whatever is nearest.
Is masonry work seasonal?
Mortar needs temperatures above roughly 40 degrees to cure properly. We schedule most masonry between spring and late autumn, and use cold weather protection when a winter repair cannot wait.
